The 411 on Alyssa

So, what do you do?

I help you say the thing.

Hi, I’m Alyssa: a writer, speaker, poet and communication consultant. I have a seemingly never-ending obsession with what we say and what we don’t say. I help you make it mentionable.

MY WORDS HAVE BEEN SPOTTED IN

Previously

A PhD dropout, then a brand strategist & copywriter, then a coach + pod host. Now, by process of elimination, a proud communication-obsessed generalist.

Different job titles, but the same job: making it mentionable.

The long version

Technically speaking, I’m a PhD dropout turned web designer turned copywriter turned brand strategist turned coach turned proud generalist by process of elimination.1

I began filling notebooks with writings on psychology, sociology, self-help, personal growth, living an intentional life, and clear communication in 2010.

Since then, I have found more ways than I can count to infuse those ideas into my work.

I don’t fit cleanly into one box. And much of what I write draws on my vast array of interests, experiences, rabbit holes I’ve wandered down, and detours I’ve ended up taking.

Life is rarely as compartmentalized as we like to think it is and my writing reflects that—transcending multiple areas of life to answer the question: “How do we make choosing transformation simple?” “How do we embrace joy?” “How do we step into our most authentic lives?”

My words and ideas have been featured in Thrive Global, Authority Magazine, Canvas Rebel, the International Journal of Business Communication, and the Systems Saved Me Podcast. Oh, and I’m published in a kids poetry book for a contest I won in Middle School.

When I’m not working, you can usually find me on a walk through my olive trees or in the kitchen whipping up a delicious dinner (with an empty peanut butter cup wrapper nearby). Who says dessert can’t come before dinner?

Alyssa Kulesa is obsessed with how the stories we tell ourselves determine what we create for ourselves.

What you’ll find here:

Questions for clarity

Like a reverse magic 8 ball. I ask the questions that shake you up so you can see the answer clearly.

Lyrics to help you feel

Sometimes we just need to see ourselves in someone else’s words.

Stories for perspective

Stories lead us home better than advice.

Courage possibility Perspective imagination

Throw your hands up if you hate shitty office lighting.

1 Generalists make for great pattern spotters and dot connectors.

The quote that started it all

“Anything that’s human is mentionable, and anything that is mentionable can be more manageable.”

The backstory on Make it Mentionable

It started with a gathering around my kitchen table and over time became painfully obvious to everyone around me first, it was the thing I love doing most.

2018

The kitchen table

I hosted an evening for women who wanted to talk about more than wine. I called it Make it Mentionable.

2020

A summit

I was hosting an honest conversation extravaganza/summit and realized I already had the perfect name for it.

2021

A podcast

The MIM summit made mr realize I wanted to have more conversations, which turned into 55 episodes of The Make it Mentionable Show.

Since you asked

Frequently mentioned

What does “make it mentionable” mean?

To bring something out into the open so it can be discussed, transformed, and leveraged.

Can I book you to speak?

Yes, yes you can. I love giving talks on imagination and creative thinking, the power of looking up, and on storytelling.

Do you still advise executives and authors?

Yes, indeed! I work with a select few founders, authors, and teams that I love in intentional sprints each year.

What is Flower Butts?

A random project I started when I bought a house with land. I realized we always see pictures of flowers from the top, but they’re equally gorgeous from the bottom. It’s a photo experiment centered around perspective.
